Hidden deep within Eagle Creek's basalt canyon, this secluded stretch of water lies far below High Bridge and above the iconic Punch Bowl Falls. Reached only by a difficult bushwhack through steep terrain, few visitors ever experience this quiet corner of the Columbia River Gorge.

Here, the creek narrows between ancient volcanic walls before spilling over smooth basalt into a deep emerald pool. It is a place where rushing water, rugged stone, and solitude come together in a way that feels untouched by time.

The adventure didn't end with the photograph. Hours later, we realized our car keys had been left on the canyon floor, turning the day into an unexpected seven-mile run back through the Gorge. Looking back, it's hard to separate the landscape from the story—proof that the best adventures are rarely the ones that go exactly as planned.
