Spire in the Sky

There are moments in the mountains that feel almost impossible to describe.

After standing on the summit of Mount Hood, we began the long descent beneath clear blue skies. Far below, the valleys had disappeared beneath a vast blanket of clouds, transforming the landscape into an endless white ocean. Only the highest ridges remained, rising like islands above the horizon.

Illumination Rock stood quietly in the foreground, its rugged volcanic spires catching the morning light as the cloud inversion slowly drifted below. It was a fleeting reminder that some of the mountain's greatest rewards come after the summit has already been reached.
